We have all been there. One second You are just farming in your lane, minding your own business thinking about that item You will buy and what power spike it will give you. Or that objective coming up and how you should shove a lane and save your ultimate for a fight that might start for it. And then all of a sudden, you find yourself fighting the enemy team in their jungle 2 vs 3. There are quite a few reasons why You shouldn’t fight, but these are my top 3.
1.You have nothing to fight for.
Time and time again, I witness players just start fights when there is no objective to take even if they win a fight. People do not understand that fighting and getting kills is very rarely worth more gold than just farming up the lane. In almost every case, You will want to fight when there is an objective to take afterwards. If you get a few kills later in the game and baron is available, that is easy - you just fought a team fight for baron. There are plenty of fights people take next to dragons, those are obvious too. But then there are a ton of fights, when there isn’t a baron available or a dragon or even a tower nearby. Players chase enemies into their jungle, almost tower diving a tier two tower - for no reason whatsoever. Even if they somehow get kills, they wasted so much time, they can’t even go back in the lane and get the tower. Moral of the story - fight for something. If you force enemies to back away, don’t chase them, take the towers down, take an objective.
Always try to have a plan in your mind what objective is upcoming and try to fight for it when you need to.
2.There are no wards, just darkness.
A lot of the time, You will want to fight for an objective that is about to spawn and there will be no wards whatsoever in the area. This happens in every rank of the game quite often. Your jungler comes to gank your lane bottom, but you have no wards, you engage and the enemy jungler shows up from the bushes and kills you before your jungler even has a chance to help You.
Or Jungler goes to gank Mid, and the player there has no wards, you both engage, enemy mid laner flashes, you try to chase. All of a sudden, from the fog of war, the enemy jungler comes in together with their support, they stomp you and you have 15 seconds with your screen gray to figure out what went wrong. You had no vision. If you saw in advance that enemy jungler and support were coming, you would have not followed and chased after the flashed enemy mid laner. You would have taken it as a victory, because you would have known that you did not have enough time to chase him down for the actual kill before his team got there. There are plenty of examples for this.
First come the wards, then come the kills.
3.Are You ready kids?
Are you actually ready to fight? Maybe you are playing bottom and really want to hook that enemy ADC, but then You do, and your ADC goes forward deals damage, then all of a sudden, enemy support uses exhaust, enemy ADC uses heal, and You both just die. Or maybe, you are playing MID lane, You shove the lane, because You don’t see the enemy mid laner anywhere and then he appears and tries to fight you. You have a lot of creeps next to you, this might not be a bad idea You think, and you lose, only to notice that the only reason you didn’t see the mid laner in lane was because he backed and completed that important item he was saving up for. And that those creeps didn’t even come close to help you enough to compensate that he had a completed item in his inventory and you had 1200 unspent gold.
Tracking summoner spells, items and cooldowns is very important. Before a fight, always check if you have summoner spell advantage, item advantage or even do you have ultimates off cooldown.
Check if your items, cooldowns and summoner spells won’t lose the fight for you.
